Corporate Philosophy

Here are the founding tenets and core values Unidesk is built on:

Managing lots of desktops should be as easy as managing one.
Desktop management is too hard. Some blame the Windows operating system. Others target end users for constantly installing unapproved applications. Others say PC lifecycle management software hasn't lived up to its promise. Still others say desktop administrators and service desks haven't instituted scalable provisioning, patching, and break/fix procedures. What we know for sure is that the current way of doing things isn't working for most enterprises. Desktop virtualization has tremendous potential, but it's merely a means to an end, not the end itself. So we made the bet that Citrix, Microsoft, VMware, and others would solve the desktop virtualization infrastructure problem, and we decided to focus on what could be done to leverage their efforts. We realized the key was not to try to manage complexity, as traditional PC lifecycle management solutions have always done, but to instead eliminate it. This fresh perspective led to our Composite Virtualization™ invention, and continues to influence our everyday thinking.

Diversity yields greater innovation and performance.
Yes, we're giving IT much greater control and a much simpler way to manage thousands of desktops. But we're also satisfying the many people who believe that Personal Computers should remain "personal." So along with those new levels of control and manageability, we're also giving IT safe new options for letting end users customize their desktops with whatever they need to get their jobs done better and faster. Unidesk takes this same approach with our business. As with desktops, we believe that diversity yields greater innovation and business performance. By embracing our cultural and personal differences and by creating an inclusive work environment, we help every Unidesk employee, business partner, and customer realize their full potential.

Life doesn't always require compromise.
Unidesk is proof that, sometimes, you can have your cake and eat it, too. Our software reduces the escalating tension between IT and end users over desktop management by letting both have it "their way," and obviating the need to make tradeoffs. IT can have complete desktop control, security, and manageability; but end users can also have complete desktop personalization. IT can centrally manage single instances of the Windows gold image and shared applications; but end users can also be allowed to install their own apps and put data anywhere on their desktops. IT will find it easier to meet desktop SLAs and budgetary constraints; but end users will also find it easier to meet their business objectives. We designed our software to make these seemingly opposing benefits possible by remembering our own desktop experiences - while every Unidesk employee has spent years delivering software for IT, we're also power users of desktops managed by IT.

Unified management can be applied to all virtualized desktops, thick or thin, connected or disconnected, single or multi-vendor.
Many people think desktop virtualization requires them to choose between client-side or server-side virtualization approaches. Or that they have to "lock-in" to a single virtualization vendor. We believe one size doesn't fit all, and that a mix of desktop virtualization approaches and products from different vendors will be required to satisfy the many use cases that exist in most enterprises. From our perspective, it doesn't matter if you choose Citrix, Microsoft, VMware, or another vendor as your hypervisor or connection broker. Unidesk will simplify the management of all virtual desktops. Our first products will optimize and enhance the management of hosted virtual desktop solutions from Citrix, VMware, Leostream, and others running on any server hypervisor. Subsequent Unidesk products will extend the full range of Unidesk management capabilities to PCs and notebooks virtualized with Type I and Type II client hypervisors. Our goal is to provide a single, unified management platform that enables all virtualized endpoints to be easily provisioned, patched, managed, supported, and personalized.

We like our customers. We're passionate about serving them. And we want their help.
We believe customers want to like their vendors, and want to help them build better products. We've seen firsthand proof we're right. Hundreds of customers have either talked to us at length about their desktop management challenges or answered detailed surveys. Without even knowing what we're building. These customers are the founding members of our fast-growing Unidesk Community, and our product managers and engineers reach out to them often for feedback on market trends, product requirements, and implementation ideas. The Unidesk Community will continue to be a key part of our business as we grow.

Work should be fun.
Optimizing the management of desktops is a difficult problem that requires a lot of thinking, innovation, and hard work. But while we believe we're solving a big problem for our customers and the computing industry at large, we also believe we should have fun doing it. After all, happy people are better collaborators, better decision-makers, and better learners. They're more productive, more creative, and more motivated. They are healthier, make fewer mistakes, and fix problems instead of complain about them. So we hire top-notch people who enjoy being on a winning team, but who can also laugh at themselves. We play the company Wii together. We keep our toy box stocked so that any day can be "bring your child to work day." And we don't take ourselves too seriously.

Thinking green is our collective responsibility.
Consumers and businesses of all sizes must do their part to reduce, reuse, and recycle. So Unidesk employees think green in everything we do, from the green benefits of our virtual desktop management solutions to the way we operate our company. Like choosing re-manufactured furniture for our corporate offices. Painting the walls with VOC-free paint. Framing our wall art with recycled frames and mattes. Installing Energy Star appliances in our corporate kitchen. Supplying employees with Unidesk mugs to reduce use of bottled water and disposable coffee cups. Communicating through videoconferencing to minimize travel between our offices in the U.S. and India. As we grow, we plan to dedicate more of our resources to setting a green example for our customers, partners, and global community.

A little communication prevents a lot of problems.
We know we won't be successful without strong lines of communication between our employees, partners, and customers. So we've created an environment that fosters open and honest collaboration and communication. Employees are encouraged to share accomplishments through company demonstrations and updates. Good news and bad are delivered as soon as possible, so we can carefully consider alternatives and develop constructive plans of action. And we maintain an active Community and issue opt-in electronic newsletters to keep people up to date on company announcements and events.
