Unidesk made lots of news at VMware Partner Exchange 2013 this week. One item that drew attention was our press release announcing our technology alliance with AppSense. It surprised some who thought Unidesk and AppSense were competitors. One Gartner analyst even tweeted "AppSense and Unidesk partners? Co-opetition at its best!"

That presumption probably stems from Unidesk's ability to create persistent...

Re-learned a rookie lesson on the way home from VMworld 2011 Las Vegas: don’t take a nap before getting on a red-eye - you won’t sleep on the plane. But it did give me the chance to blog Unidesk’s experience and thank 10 of our customers for helping staff our booth!

But that's what they did last week, saying the awards "showcase one of the key aspects of desktop virtualization, user profile management."

Sure, profile management was a necessary evil in the days of Windows ...

I spent yesterday at an enjoyable partner meeting where one of the main architects clearly expressed his distaste for several brands of profile management software. His customers’ top complaints?

  • Profiles are extra work to manage on top of their virtual desktops
  • Users don’t like the limitations of their ‘profiles’; they want a real desktop
  • One product has random profile disappearance...

One of the things VMware View was often knocked for when it first came out was how it handled Windows profiles. Citrix acquired Sepago a few years ago and has been busy integrating it into Citrix Delivery Center to deal with profile management issues, whereas VMware has had to rely on standard Microsoft roaming profiles or some third party tool. With its acquisition of RTO's tools, VMware can now ...
