Unidesk Composite Virtualization™ technology is a unique way of "componentizing" Microsoft Windows (and in the future, other operating systems) from the moment it starts booting into discrete, separately manageable containers:

the operating system itself, commonly called the boot image or Gold image;
IT-delivered applications;
user-installed applications and data.

Unidesk Fosters Educational Advancement and Achievement with Support for Local Science and Math Student Conference

Reflects Company’s Commitment to Community Service

MARLBOROUGH, MA, November 11, 2008 – Unidesk, the leading innovator of virtual desktop management software, joined Abbott Laboratories, Raytheon, Rohm and Haas, and the University of Massachusetts in supporting the fifth annual Northboro Junior Women’s Club (NJWC) Women in Science and Math conference held on November 8, 2008 at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, MA. The conference is designed to engage and excite young women in grades 6-8 about engineering, science, and mathematics-related professions. Unidesk’s participation is just one way the company is fulfilling its commitment to corporate citizenship.

With more than 100 students participating this year, highlights included:

Leslie Berg, Ph.D., University of Massachusetts Medical School Professor of Pathology, explaining how research of the human immune system can lead to medical breakthroughs;
Local solar engineers teaching students how to design and build photovoltaic cells;
Local software engineers teaching students how to program iRobot Roomba robots to follow chains of command;
Ellen Ferraro, Ph.D., Deputy Director of the System Validation, Test and Analysis Directorate for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS), encouraging students to follow their math and science dreams.

"The Women in Science and Math conference is an opportunity for us to share our achievements as professionals and encourage young women to follow their passions," said Nicole Reineke, Conference Chairperson, NJWC and Director of Product Management, Unidesk. “It's also a time to spark intellectual curiosity and hopefully inspire tomorrow's scientists, doctors, and engineers.”

The conference gave each student a chance to participate in four group sessions, and listen to opening and closing presentations by accomplished professional women whose backgrounds include Computational Chemistry, Architecture, Textile Design, Meteorology, Environmental Health and Safety Engineering, Flight Nursing, and Emergency Medicine. The survey responses indicated that the event was a complete success.

"I'm coming back because it was an amazing experience," said seventh grader Hannah Lambert. "I learned a lot about the different jobs and careers you can have with math and science."

Unidesk joined the other companies who supported the conference in contributing employee volunteers, supplies, course content, and expertise. "We believe in supporting our community’s most precious natural resources, our students,” said Tom Rose, Chief Marketing Officer, Unidesk. “Our virtual desktop management software is built on innovation and advanced technology, so supporting this annual conference is a natural way for Unidesk to be a good corporate citizen and give back to our community.”
