Unidesk Files Desktop Virtualization Patent on CacheCloud Image Delivery Technology (5:04)

It's How The Layers Get To Every Desktop.

CacheCloud™ is our patent-pending layer delivery technology. This system of virtual appliances replicates and caches single instances of Operating System, Application, and Personalization layers using your existing virtual infrastructure. It then presents each layer as storage to the Unidesk Composite Virtualization technology running inside Microsoft Windows. At boot-time, Composite Virtualization dynamically merges each layer into unified storage to create fully personal, IT-compliant virtual desktops.

CachePoints Become Your Desktop C: Drives.

The virtual appliances that make up CacheCloud are called CachePoints™. Each CachePoint becomes the storage for the virtual desktops it supports. When a virtual desktop boots, its I/O is shifted to its currently assigned CachePoint.

The CachePoint delivers all of the layers needed by the desktop into our Composite Virtualization layering engine.

There, the IT-assigned Operating System and Application layers are combined with the user's read-write Personalization layer into unified storage, which Microsoft Windows naturally boots on. Neither Windows nor end users are ever aware that Unidesk is present.

Any customizations made by the user, including user-installed applications, profile changes, saved documents, and more, are captured and written back to the Personalization layer on the CachePoint for fully persistent personalization.

CachePoints Handle Replication For VDI Scale And Performance.

Unidesk's Master CachePoint maintains a single instance of every Operating System and Application layer in your Unidesk environment. You only need to provision and patch each layer once. The Master CachePoint automatically replicates the layers as needed to other CachePoints that serve as the storage for your virtual desktops.

Each CachePoint stores only the layers needed by the virtual desktops it supports. For example, if any of the 50 desktops on a single CachePoint are assigned Microsoft Word, then the Master CachePoint will replicate the Word layer to that CachePoint. If none of the desktops are assigned Microsoft Visio, the Visio layer will not be replicated.

You can deploy as many CachePoints as you need to scale your VDI deployment. We don't charge for CachePoints.

Use Your Choice Of Storage. Just Not As Much As Before.

Since CachePoints are simply virtual appliances that run on your existing virtual infrastructure, they can use any storage supported by your hypervisor - SAN, NAS, or even DAS. You can use standard high availability and snapshot management tools to protect the desktops on each CachePoint from server outages and disk failures.

CacheCloud automatically eliminates storage duplication in VDI environments. By storing your Microsoft Windows gold images and applications once, and caching copies on stateless CachePoint appliances, duplication never happens.

CacheCloud also enables you to solve the morning login storms common in VDI environments by naturally distributing I/O across multiple CachePoints. You can even host your desktops on the commodity storage in your virtual appliance hosts to bring desktop storage costs back in-line with PC storage price points.
