How are applications built in Unidesk as compared to Zenworks?
Unidesk’s app packaging is typically much easier than traditional PC config and application virtualization tools. You simply ask Unidesk for an installation machine. A wizard will ask what O/S layer you want, and if you want any app layers pre-loaded (useful if you’re packaging a Word plug-in – you’re going to need Word as a pre-requisite). That’s it. Unidesk will spin up a pristine desktop VM with the layers you chose, and then you just install your application. Run Setup, copy files, change registry keys – whatever you would do normally to install an app on a physical PC. When you’re done, hit Finalize in the Unidesk management console, and the layer is created, ready to assign to one or more desktops. No sequencing or scripting, and no limitations as to what apps you can package. You also won’t have the app communication issues that are common with bubbled or isolated apps.
