Unidesk and Citrix Transform the Mobile Workspace

Unidesk is partnering with Citrix to bring simplicity to the management of mobile workspaces, making it easier for IT to deliver applications and desktops to any device on any network or cloud. Unidesk is Citrix Ready certified to enhance the following Citrix solutions:

  • Citrix XenApp - Eliminate inefficient image management, application virtualization issues, and XenApp upgrade pain with Unidesk provisioning and management software.
  • Citrix XenDesktop - Empower desktop and helpdesk staff to manage VDI day-to-day and overcome the application delivery bottleneck with Unidesk layering innovation.
  • Citrix VDI in a Box - Achieve the same VDI simplicity with greater flexibility and scale by upgrading to the combination of Citrix XenDesktop and Unidesk.

Unidesk and Citrix XenApp

Unidesk layering innovation greatly simplifies the management of XenApp farms. Now you can provision custom XenApp servers with different applications; patch Windows; update applications; audit changes; and manage XenApp delivery groups all through a single, easy-to-use web console and the same reusable set of application and Windows OS "layers."

Application delivery and Windows patching for XenApp server farms doesn't get any easier. Traditional app virtualization solutions require days of sequencing, scripting, and pre/post-processing time and expertise. Unidesk enables everyone in IT to become an app delivery expert. Simply install an app once on a Unidesk packaging VM to capture it as a read-only virtual disk. Unidesk also delivers the Windows Server operating system itself as a virtual disk layer. You'll be able to provision, patch, and update a few servers, a silo, or an entire farm just by assigning layers. No more installs. No more isolation bubbles. No more extra images.

XenApp upgrades are also fast and easy with Unidesk. Unidesk can package the Citrix Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) as a standalone layer, independent of your Windows OS layer. You can now upgrade every XenApp server in minutes just by creating a new version of the VDA app layer and assigning it to all servers.

Unidesk and Citrix XenDesktop

Unidesk replaces the many separate tools and disciplines traditionally needed to manage desktops in Citrix XenDesktop environments with a “single pane of glass” solution that is much easier to use. With Unidesk, architects and server administrators can transition day-to-day VDI management to desktop administrators and helpdesk staff.

Unidesk application layering solves the application delivery bottleneck for Citrix XenDesktop by enabling all applications to be delivered from a single installation point as read-only virtual disks. Layering is compatible with all applications, even those with boot-time drivers and system services such as Dragon, antivirus, iTunes, and printers.

Unlike traditional SBC, layered apps appear to be locally installed. Unlike traditional app virtualization, layered apps aren't isolated or hidden from Windows. Apps are fully interoperable, even if packaged in separate layers. The layering process is fast and easy and can be mastered by everyone in IT. The virtual disks representing the application layers are stored once per datastore and shared by many VMs, greatly reducing space requirements.

Unidesk also delivers Windows itself as a layer, enabling the OS to be managed like an app – patch once, deploy to any number of VMs, rollback to undo mistakes. With one clean OS layer for all desktops, and app layers delivered on top in any order or combination, there is no need for different images to contain apps that cannot be virtualized or to support different physical VM configurations. Image sprawl is replaced by Imageless Management.

Unidesk for Citrix VDI in a Box Replacement

With Citrix ending sales for VDI in a Box, the combination of Unidesk and Citrix XenDesktop is the ideal replacement.

Rather than learn Citrix PVS or MCS and the intricacies of image management with those tools, VDI in a Box customers can install XenDesktop and use Unidesk to manage the environment. You'll have a single, scalable solution and a single interface for personalization, application layering, provisioning, and image management.

"Unidesk offers the most advanced layering technology to help streamline the management of desktops and applications, and it has been verified in Citrix XenDesktop environments with Hyper-V. For small and mid-sized customers seeking simple, flexible, high-performance VDI, Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Unidesk offer a compelling combination."
